I disliked the old layout for one reason: too many graphics. I felt the need to go back to a simple layout, one that would be more practical for all users. So - I got rid of Iframes and all of those guady images. I only have one image and use DIV layers to place all of my content on tables. Simple, easy to navigate and not hurtful on the eyes or loading time.
At first, my need to have different layouts on each section overtook me and Obsess, History, Person, Data and Culture each had some simple banner layout. However, thanks to one guestbook entry, I saw that this may irritate some users. Therefore, all of my content have the same pages.
Pretty much the only code I kept from the old layout was the cursor change. I basically made an image in Photoshop, made different text images for navigation and a table. Lastly, I manuvered the text navi images up ^ so that it would be easy to access. Then, I just made a little DIV code to paste the content onto the table and VOILA! - a new layout was born.
The site IS best viewed when you click F11 because then you DO NOT have to scroll that much at all. Though, if that doesn't bother you, then never mind :) Note that I do not copy anything from other webmistress/masters sites. Everything I make on the website is fully and completely mine, and I link everyone else properly.
Many people wonder about my site's name, and even more think it's a ridiculous one. It's more of a personal obsession of mine, Sanrio. This site was going to start out as a Hello Kitty database but since there are enough of those floating around, I decided to make it my personal website. Being the newb I was, I didn't think I should make a whole new name - thus, my personal website was named Hello Kitty Universe. Now, I could change it, but honestly, I'm too attached to it now. It's childish, and the whole "universe" thing reminds me of when I was into being a queen and ruling the world. Ah...sweet memories.
If you noticed that there are a ton more things in the Data section then anywhere else...it's probably because this IS a person website. It's mainly centered around me - and I think that's the easiest subject to talk about. Of course, there's quite a bit in the person section too. The point of this ramble is NOT to criticize where I put my content. I'm not fond of the whole *ME**YOU**WWW* thing, it's too broad. Once I get more content up, I will probably organize my site differently again. Which brings me to another point - when's the new layout coming?
I like this layout - it fits my website and is perfect for the amount (and type) of content I have. Therefore, I'm not planning on making a new layout until I have too much content *not happening!* - I do get bored of layouts, but this is much too functional to get rid of. When I DO make a new layout, it probably won't use Iframes either. I like them, but it's much too hard to get rid of the banner ads. Perhaps when I get a domain, or hosted. Please host me :)
